Chansong Woo

Chansong Woo is an interdisciplinary artist based in Auburn, Alabama. Her artwork explores how personal memory and trauma can be articulated through art. By engaging with themes of vulnerability and subjectivity, her art invites viewers as a post generation from diverse backgrounds to reflect on how history is learned and remembered across generations.

Her work has been exhibited at Pen and Brush (New York, NY), Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (Montgomery, AL), InselGallerie (Berlin, Germany), York Art Gallery (York, England), Whatcom Museum (Bellingham, WA), Pensacola Museum of Art (Pensacola, FL), MoFA (Tallahassee, FL), ATHICA (Athens, GA), Songwon Art Center, and Palais de Seoul (Seoul, South Korea). She received her MFA in Studio Art from Florida State University and her BFA and MFA degrees in Painting from Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, South Korea.

When We Drop Fear is a participatory artwork inviting viewers to engage directly with the artist’s personal memories, visualized as large drawings hanging from the ceiling. Participants are welcome to interact with the drawings by tearing them—using their hands or personal tools—as much or as little as they wish, then use the torn pieces to express their memories related to fear through words, drawings, or other marks. Leaving the piece untouched is equally valid. As viewers participate, the hanging drawings will gradually diminish while accumulating torn pieces on the floor. Those fragments will be transformed into a new body of work titled When We Drop Fear.
