Cheryl Hazelton: And Your Filth Remains

May 3 – May 24 | Performance May 3 at 12pm | Opening Reception May 3, 1pm–9pm

COOP Gallery is pleased to present And Your Filth Remains, a solo exhibition by Memphis artist Cheryl Hazelton, opening May 3, 2025, during the Wedgewood Houston Art Crawl from 1–9 PM. And Your Filth Remains is an immersive and interactive installation based upon the themes of time, decay, labor, and the unseen worker. Please join us for an artist performance on Saturday, May 3rd at 12 PM. Viewers are invited to step into the space - you will alter and degrade the contents of the installation, completing the inevitable wear and erasure that comes with time and interaction. At the end of the exhibition, please also join us for Traces of Time, a workshop led by Cheryl Hazelton on Saturday, May 24, from 12 – 2 PM.

More about the Artist

Cheryl Hazelton is a Memphis-based sculptor, video performance, and installation artist whose work delves deeply into the themes of time, decay, labor, and abject identity. With an interest in the ephemeral and the overlooked, Cheryl transforms everyday materials and activities into poignant reflections on the passage of time and the human condition. Her immersive installations challenge viewers to confront the transient nature of existence and the often-invisible labor that shapes our world. Cheryl has earned her MFA in sculpture from the University of Memphis and has work in the university’s collection as well as in private collections in Los Angeles. Through her evocative sculptures and installations, Cheryl invites audiences to engage with the raw, unfiltered aspects of identity and existence, aspiring to make a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of Memphis and beyond.
