March 7- April 30, 2020
Opening Reception: Saturday March 7, 6-9pm
COOP Gallery is pleased to present the work of Danny R.W. Baskin, winner of COOP’s Open Call 2019.
In his recent series, In the Garden at Night, Moses Dreams of Ribs, artist Danny R.W. Baskin presents a collection of vases and vessels crafted in fabric and thread. Informed by a unique blend of Art History, Jewish traditions, and Southern culture, Baskin creates works simultaneously familiar and uncanny. The organic countours of these soft forms disarm while offering a nuanced reflection on loss of community, death of both individuals or of tradition, and of loneliness. In deep blues and greys, the works allude to the indeterminate cusp between endings and new beginnings, between day and night; the gloaming. As the artist states, “To some this point of evening is an ending, to others it is a beginning. Just as death is the end of life for one, but the beginning of living without that person for everyone else.” In addition to the exhibtion of sculptural works, the artist will also be serving a meal to the public at the Opening Reception on March 7th during the Nashville Art Crawl.
