January 4 – 25, 2019
Opening Reception Jan. 4, 6-9pm
COOP Gallery is pleased to present Footnotes, an exhibition of multidisciplinary work by the gallery’s newest members, Austin Reavis, Ellen Dempsey, and Evie Woltil Richner. Each year COOP invites local and newly transplanted artists to join its ranks in recognition of the seriousness of their work and their significant contributions to Nashville’s artist community. This year’s show is indicative of the diverse range of media and conceptual approaches that contemporary artists engage with, and exemplifies COOP’s commitment to the greater visual arts dialogue within our local community.
Typically seen as a support to a larger body of work, the footnote becomes the main concern for Reavis, Dempsey, and Richner. Footnotes provide ancillary bits of information that seem less important but provide a deeper understanding of what is being read. In this spirit, the three artists present one large piece amidst smaller, yet not less significant, works. With similar interests in mundane support systems like maintenance work, concrete, furniture, and the passing of time, these new members explore the footnote both literally and symbolically.
