COOP and Oasis Bike Workshop are pleased to present A Month In Motion, an Exhibition of Custom Bicycles, Art, and Photography created by participants in the Oasis Youth Summer Internship Program. Drawing inspiration from the rhythms of summer cycling in Nashville, this show reflects the changing landscape of neighborhoods, unexpected encounters, and the heightened awareness of place that accompanies movement on two wheels. The exhibition explores the intersections of craftsmanship, creativity, and community, examining what it means to become an artist, a cyclist, and a teacher. Through custom-built bicycles, paintings and drawings, and photography, A Month in Motion traces journeys across the city from perspectives shaped by both the bicycle and the camera lens - experiences ranging from meeting local artists and small business owners to exploring Nashville’s diverse communities. Alongside technical ski ls in bicycle repair and maintenance, the interns developed leadership ski ls by teaching younger riders how to tune and care for their bicycles at local schools and community centers, creating opportunities for mentorship, connection, and shared learning. This show celebrates how cycling can serve as a vehicle for discovery, empowerment, and community engagement.
About the Artists
A collective of Nashville students, ages 13–16, participate in a month-long internship at Oasis Bike Workshop and the Oasis Underground Art Studio program. Their work grows from the exploration of Nashville by bicycle while learning the art and mechanics of bike building. Photographs capture fleeting moments they encounter during city rides. Inspired by both natural and built environments, the students document experiences - repairing bicycles, teaching younger students to ride, and celebrating the joy and freedom of cycling. Together, these moments reflect a commitment to sharing their journey with riders from diverse communities across Nashville. Each artist completely rebuilds a bicycle from the ground up—from disassembly, repair, and replacement of components before custom painting the frame. Bicycles, photographs and other illustrative art works, embody the ski ls, creativity, and collaborative spirit developed throughout the internship.

Founded in 2009, the Oasis Bike Workshop is a year-round earn-a-bike program that empowers Nashville's young people with alternative transportation and maintenance ski ls. Since its inception, over 5,000 young people have rolled out the workshop door on bikes that THEY rebuilt and customized. Through this free, volunteer-powered program, youth are trained in bicycle safety and maintenance. This program empowers youth as advocates for alternative transportation and ski led trades, connecting them to Nashville while promoting safe cycling as they Empower. Rebuild. Ride On. The Underground Art Studio is a safe place to tap into your creative energy through painting, drawing, digital art, music, video, photography, dance, writing, sculpture, street art, and more. In our Art Studio, you can help make Nashville a more colorful, vibrant, and inclusive community.
